"Youth On Boards" Bill

Representative Mark Schauer of the 62nd District received an enthusiastic welcome from YACers who attended Adventure Tours ‘98.

He came to Michigan State University to hear 10 youth and 1 adult testify about House Bill 5906, the "Youth On Boards" bill he has agreed to sponsor.

H.B. 5906 will give youth ages 16 and 17 the opportunity to serve and vote on boards of nonprofit organizations. It is the only bill of its kind in the country.

The bill was sponsored by Senator Bill Schuette in the Senate.

Testifiers

Eleven people from throughout the state prepared testimony for Representative Schauer at his official hearing for H.B. 5906.

Their testimony will be included in the official House record to be read when the bill goes before the state legislature in the fall.
