An advisors ability to empower youth plays a key role in the success of a YAC. Advisors are not meant to run the YAC, but they act as a resource and support system for YAC members while empowering them to take action. The Michigan Community Foundations Youth Project Committee recommends that each YAC have two trained YAC advisors who are knowledgeable and supportive of youth development and leadership.
